In 2008, a heart condition called microvascular angina forced her to cancel an entire run of Las Vegas shows, cutting off a major income stream just as old royalty debts to her record labels — reportedly around $16 million combined — came due.
She filed for bankruptcy a second time in 2010, listing debts estimated between $10 million and $50 million. She has since rebuilt through television, a Las Vegas residency, and further recording work, and has spoken openly about both bankruptcies as cautionary tales for young artists.
